NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. -- Manchester University moved into first place in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball standings with an 8-1 victory over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Sunday afternoon.
Sean Liedtky provided a strong pitching effort to lead Manchester, allowing just three hits with five strikeouts in eight innings of work. The Spartans regained first place in the league standings after advancing to the NCAA Division III World Series last season.
Tailur Szarenski led the Manchester with three hits, two runs scored and one RBI. Justin Miller and Ryan Lehrman added two hits and three RBIs each.
Sophomore Donnie Waters (Franklin, Ind.) led the Engineer offense with a double. Freshman Kevin Jendra (Wheaton, Ill./Benet Academy) added an RBI single and sophomore Zach Hull (Brazil, Ind./Northview) also had a base hit on the day for Rose-Hulman.
Rose-Hulman stands 12-7 on the season and is one game behind Manchester in the HCAC standings at 7-3 in league play. The Spartans improved to 14-9 and 8-2 in conference play. Rose-Hulman returns to league action on Tuesday with a conference matchup against Anderson.
