TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology relied on a strong pitching performance from junior Luke Buehler and timely hitting to top Calvin College 3-2 in the opener of a weekend baseball homestand on Friday night at Art Nehf Field.
Buehler allowed just one run and seven hits in 7.2 strong innings on the mound to give Rose-Hulman the lead. Stone Brogan and Adam Taylor combined for the final four outs, with Taylor picking up his first college save.
Rose-Hulman's offense scored once in the fourth inning and twice in the seventh to provide enough scoring for the victory. Brian Pershing had a team-high three hits with one run scored. Sean Casey and Luke Kluemper added two hits each.
Rose-Hulman improved to 5-3 on the season, while Calvin dropped to 2-2. The Fightin' Engineers host Calvin at noon on Saturday and DePauw at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
