TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology opens the 2014 football season with a trip to Kalamazoo College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Fightin' Engineers return 38 letter winners and 12 starters from last year's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference co-championship squad. The title represented Rose-Hulman's first football conference championship in 25 years.
This year, Rose-Hulman features the return of experienced units at wide receiver (3 starters), offensive line (4 starters) and in the secondary (3 starters). The returnees include first-team all-league offensive lineman Eric Taylor and second-team all-league honorees Zac Erba (TE) and Kevin Nowak (CB).
Rose-Hulman's 95-player roster comes to campus from 25 states under the direction of 2013 HCAC Coach of the Year Jeff Sokol. The head coach also seeks his first career victory over his alma mater in Saturday's matchup.
Rose-Hulman finished 7-3 last season and 7-1 in conference play to earn a share of the HCAC title. Kalamazoo compiled a 6-4 record last season and was 4-2 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play.
The Hornets won three straight games to close the season and secure a winning record. Top returnees include senior quarterback Aaron McGuire, running back Elijah Hamilton-Wray and the team's top two tacklers from 2013 in Dylan Zerki and Connor Rzeznik.
