ANDERSON, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology senior Ben Green (Frisco, Texas/Centennial) scored once in each half to lead the Fightin' Engineers past Anderson University 2-1 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer action on Wednesday.
After the Engineers started the first half with a barrage of shots, Green connected on a free kick in the box, twisting the ball inside the left post to give Rose-Hulman a 1-0 lead in the 36th minute.
The Engineers would enter halftime with the lead, but Anderson (4-8, 0-2 HCAC) capitalized early in the second half to knot the game at 1-all. With Rose-Hulman threatening on the offensive end, the Ravens defense cleared the ball down the right side where it was eventually crossed to Todd Canal, who beat junior keeper Drew Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick) to the left side in the 53rd minute.
Green would give the Engineers the game-winner in the 72nd minute, finishing a ball in front of the box after teammate Max Brown (Atlanta, Ga./Chamblee Charter) sent it in from the left side for the assist.
The Engineers outshot the Ravens 23-9, led by senior William Senat (Edmond, Okla./North) with four. Anderson keeper Chris Maloney stopped nine shots in the contest, while Miller finished the match with two saves for Rose-Hulman.
Rose-Hulman improved to 5-4-2 on the season and 2-0 in conference play, while Anderson stands 4-8 overall and 0-2 in league matches. The Fightin' Engineers return to action at home on Saturday with a 2:30 league matchup against Defiance.
