Four Goals by Belk Lead Men's Soccer Past Bluffton

LIMA, OHIO -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology senior Drew Belk (Jasper) scored a career-high four goals to lead the men's soccer team past Bluffton University 5-0 on Sunday night at Lima Senior High School.

Belk scored once in the first half and added three second half goals to lift the Fightin' Engineers to a victory in their Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opener.  The four-goal effort marked the fourth performance of four goals or more in a game during Rose-Hulman's soccer history.

For his efforts, Belk was named Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week on Monday.

Senior William Senat (Edmond, Okla./North) opened the scoring in the 10th minute, with an unassisted goal.  Belk helped the Engineers earn a 2-0 halftime lead with a score, courtesy of a pass from senior Ben Green (Frisco, Texas/Centennial).

Belk secured the victory with three goals in the second half.  The first game in the 69th minute on a pass from Senat, with the second coming in the 80th minute on another pass from Green.

Belk added the final score of the match in the 87th minute with an unassisted goal.

Junior Drew Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick) and senior Alec Houpt (Chesterton) earned the fourth Fightin' Engineer shutout of the season to pace the defensive effort.  Rose-Hulman outshot the Beavers 20-2 in the victory, with Belk firing a team-high nine shots.

The match was played Sunday night after heavy rains on Friday forced a postponement of the contest.

Rose-Hulman improved to 4-4-2 on the season and 1-0 in HCAC play, while Bluffton dropped to 0-8 and 0-1.  The Fightin' Engineers return to action at Anderson University on Wednesday night.
