TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Drew Belk scored two goals and William Senat added one more to lead the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's soccer team to a 3-0 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over Defiance College Saturday.
The Engineers (6-4-2, 3-0) remain in first place in the HCAC men's soccer standings with the win, their third straight victory.
Belk (Jasper, Ind./Jasper) opened the contest's scoring in the 22nd minute with a point-blank header after teammate Andrew Bartush's (Granger, Ind./Penn) shot attempt was blocked by the Defiance defense. Senior Ben Green (Frisco, Texas/Centennial) started the play by sending in one of Rose-Hulman's three first-half corner kicks.
Belk added his seventh goal of the season in the 74th minute, flicking a shot high over the Defiance keeper after teammate Brad Rostron (Westlake, Texas/Southlake Carroll) crossed the ball into Mike Smyser (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern), who passed it off to Belk.
With the match in control, Senat (Edmond, Okla./North) broke away for an unassisted score in the 78th minute, beating three defenders before firing a shot high to the right hand corner of the net to make the score 3-0.
Rose-Hulman outshot the Yellow Jackets 15-4 in the contest, as junior keeper Drew Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick) collected one save to pick up his fourth shutout of 2013.
Defiance falls to 6-7, 1-2 HCAC with the setback.
The Engineers return to the pitch Wednesday when they host conference foe Mount St. Joseph for a 7 p.m. matchup at the Intramural Field.
