Second Half Spurt Leads Men's Soccer Past MSJ
TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology scored four goals in the second half to turn a 1-0 lead into a 5-0 men's soccer victory over Mount St. Joseph on Wednesday night at the Engineer Intramural Field.
Senior Drew Belk (Jasper) led the offensive effort with two goals and one assist. Seniors Ben Green (Frisco, Texas/Centennial) and William Senat (Edmond, Okla./North) each added one goal and two assists. Sophomore Marco Cattani (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) added one goal, and senior Marshall Ishmael (Knoxville, Tenn./Farragut) was credited with one assist.
Senat opened the scoring in the 20th minute on a double assist in transition from Belk and Green. Rose-Hulman outshot Mount St. Joseph 12-1 in the first half, but the Lions defense held the margin at one goal in the first 45 minutes.
The Fightin' Engineer offense connected four times in 15 minutes in the second half. Cattani scored in the 64th minute on an assist from Ishmael. Green tallied the third goal of the match on a pass from Senat in the 68th minute.
Belk added the final two goals, one in the 74th minute on an assist from Green and another in the 79th minute on an assist from Senat.
Rose-Hulman outshot Mount St. Joseph 25-1 in the match. The duo of junior Drew Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick) and senior Alec Houpt (Chesterton) combined on Rose-Hulman's sixth shutout of the season in goal.
Rose-Hulman improved to 7-4-2 and is tied with Hanover for first place in the HCAC standings at 4-0. Mount St. Joseph dropped to 2-12 and 1-3 in conference matches. The Fightin' Engineers travel to Transylvania University on Saturday.
