Rose-Hulman Softball Splits Saturday DH With Bluffton in Season Finale

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology softball team concluded the 2018 season by splitting a doubleheader at Bluffton University on Saturday afternoon.  

Game 1 - Rose-Hulman 18, Bluffton 5

The Fightin' Engineers pounded out 18 hits and scored the game's final 11 runs to defeat Bluffton University 18-5 in Game One of Saturday's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader.

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology scored four runs in the top of the 2nd.  Cassidy Yeomans got the scoring started for Rose with an RBI double to right center that scored Mandi Routon.  Jessica Thuer then followed with an RBI single to center that plated Yeomans.  Gabbi Markison pushed Rose's lead to 4-0 after she hit a two-run double.

The Fightn' Engineers hot hitting continued in the 3rd inning.  Maddie Struble delivered a run scoring base hit down the line in right.  It was again Cassidy Yeomans and Jessica Thuer who hit back-to-back RBI singles to put Rose ahead 7-0.

Bluffton answered with a pair of runs in the home half of the 3rd.  The Beavers continued their comeback push with three runs in the bottom of the 5th to draw within 7-5.  

The Fightin' Engineers picked up several key insurance runs in the 6th.  Gabbi Markison hit her second two-run double of the game that scored Cydney Ogan and Hannah Bach.  Jenny Miller then followed with an RBI single up the middle that put Rose up 10-5.  RHIT then blew the game open in the top of the 7th.  After Bluffton walked the bases loaded, Markison hit a run scoring single.  Miller added an infield single to second that scored another run.  Maddie Struble then followed with a two-run double to left center.  A few batters later Alexis Price hit a two-run single.  Cassidy Yeomans rounded out the Rose-Hulman offense with an RBI double to right center.

Gabbi Markison led the RHIT offense with a 3-5 effort at the plate in Game One.  Markison hit two doubles, drove in five runs, and scored twice.  Jenny Miller went 3-5 with two RBI and two runs.  Maddie Struble went 2-5 with two RBI and two runs.  Cassidy Yeomans finished 3-4 with three RBI and three runs scored.  Jessica Thuer finished 3-3 with two RBI and two runs.

Michelle Korf pitched seven innings and earned her fourth win of the season in the pitcher's circle.  

Game 2 - Bluffton 5, Rose-Hulman 1

The Beavers managed to scatter nine Rose-Hulman hits and held Rose to one run to take Game Two of the day.  

Bluffton scored one run apiece in the bottom of the 1st and 2nd innings to grab an early 2-0 lead.  Rose-Hulman cut that lead in half in the top of the 4th when Jenny Miller's RBI groundout scored Cydney Ogan.

Leading the way offensively for Rose was Gabbi Markison who went 2-3 with a double.  Cydney Ogan chipped in a 2-4 day at the plate.  

Rose-Hulman won three of its last four games this week to conclude the 2018 season.
