RHIT Looking to Finish Strong at Anderson Wednesday

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Rose-Hulman women's basketball team clinched at least a share of the Heartland Conference Regular Season championship this past Saturday after a 65-34 win over Manchester.  The Fightin' Engineers earned hosting rights for the upcoming HCAC Tournament set for February 24-25.  However, the women will look to end the regular season on strong note this week.

Rose-Hulman has their sights set for Wednesday February 15.  RHIT travels to Anderson University with the aspirations of locking up sole possession of the HCAC Regular Season title.  A win would do so for the Fightin' Engineers.  The Fightin' Engineers are 20-3, 15-1 HCAC entering Wednesday's game.  Anderson stands at 5-18, 2-14 HCAC in 2016-17.

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology has won 10 straight games; their second double-digit winning streak in the last two years.  Anderson leads the all-time series between both institutions, 23-11, but the Fightin' Engineers will look to win their sixth straight over the Ravens on Wednesday night.  RHIT defeated Anderson earlier this season by a final score of 66-32 back on January 11 in Terre Haute.

A big factor in Rose-Hulman's success has been their nationally ranked defense. The women lead the HCAC and are ranked No. 5 in the nation in scoring defense, allowing only 46.5 ppg (NCAA Statistics as of Feb. 10, 2017). The Fightin' Engineers also rank No. 1 in the HCAC in rebounds per game (42.2), and rebounding margin (+10.3). Rose-Hulman also ranks first in field goal percentage defense, holding opponents to just 31.1% shooting from the floor.

Head Coach Jon Prevo, in his 11th year as HC, has guided RHIT to its second straight 20-win season. During his tenure Rose-Hulman has three 20+ win seasons. He now has an overall winning percentage above .500.

Sophomores Ally (12.7 ppg, 6.4 rpg) and Abby Bromenschenkel (7.3, 3.3 rpg) have been key players for Rose this season.  Junior Alyzia Dilworth (8.1 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 2.0 spg) has started every game this season.  Seniors Josie Schmidt (7.7 ppg, 4.8 rpg) and Abbie Marshall (6.0 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 2.5 apg) were honored this past Saturday during Senior Day for their outstanding contributions to the Rose-Hulman women's basketball program.

Tipoff from O.C. Lewis Gymnasium in Anderson set for 7:30 p.m.
