Women's Basketball Starts Season With Birmingham Southern Tournament

TERRE HAUTE, Ind.-- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's basketball team will travel to Birmingham, Ala. to start the season this weekend with the Birmingham Southern Tip-off Tournament.  The Engineers will face Oglethorpe on Saturday, 11/17 at 6:00 PM CT and finish the weekend taking on Birmingham Southern on Sunday, 11/18 at 4:00 PM CT.

Rose-Hulman Notes & News:

* Rose-Hulman has been picked as the favorite to win the HCAC title this year in the pre-season coaches poll.
* The Engineers finished the 2017-18 season winning their third consecutive HCAC Championship against Transylvania University.  
* Rose-Hulman finished the year with an overall record of 24-4, and went undefeated in the conference with an HCAC record of 18-0.
* The Fightin' Engineers enter the season with the nation's longest active NCAA Division III women's basketball home winning streak at 38 games.   
* First-team ALL-HCAC selection Ally Bromenschenkel (12.8 ppg, 7.3 rpg) and second-team ALL-League honoree Abby Bromenschenkel (7.5 ppg, 4.8 rpg) highlight the returnees.
* The remaining players that return after appearing in 15 games or more last season include Taylor Graham (7.3 ppg); Debie Gedeon (3.0 ppg); Sophie Brooks(2.9 ppg); Jenna Queary (2.3 ppg); and Hannah Woody (1.6 ppg).

The Opposition: Oglethorpe University

* The Stormy Petrels finished last season with an overall record of 21-8 and a conference record of 11-3 in the SAA. 
* The team comes off their first SAA Championship win last season defeating the Hendrix Warriors in overtime 70-69.
* The Petrels bring back six All-SAA performers from last season, including D3hoops.com Rookie of the Year and Women's DIII News all-American Savannah LeGate.

The Opposition: Birmingham Southern College

* The Panthers finished the 20117-18 season with an overall record of 11-15 and a conference record of 5-9 in the SAA.  
* Birmingham Southern ended last season with a loss to Hendrix in the semifinal game of the SAA tournament with a final score of 62-51.
* The team returns second-team ALL-SAA sophomore Emilee Olsen and SAA honorable mention sophomore Elizabeth Philpot from last season.
