TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology scored once in the first half and twice in the second to earn a 3-0 shutout victory over Greenville College in women's soccer action on Wednesday at the Intramural Field.
Senior Rachel Johnstone (Loveland, Ohio) put the Engineers on the board in the 34th minute, on a breakaway goal started by an assist from junior Haley O'Neil (Batavia, Ill.).
Senior Nicky Wheeler (Avon) pushed the lead to 2-0 with a goal in the 65th minute. Wheeler scored her first goal of the season after a pass from sophomore Kate DeMoss (Martinsville/Roncalli).
Rose-Hulman added an insurance goal in the 78th minute when sophomore Hayley Gilliam (Zionsville) completed another breakaway. DeMoss provided her second assist of the match to secure the victory.
Defensively, the Fightin' Engineer defense held Greenville to just seven shots and sophomore Lucinda Combs (Danville, Ky./Boyle County) made three saves to record the shutout. Senior Amanda Kingman (Plano, Texas) led the offensive effort with three shots.
Rose-Hulman set a new season-high with three goals and improved to 2-1-1 with the victory. Greenville stands 1-3 overall. The Fightin' Engineers return to action with a home game against Millikin University on Saturday.
