Volleyball Falls in Pair of Four-Set Matches to Open Season


NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology volleyball team dropped a pair of four-set matches to open the 2014 season at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference / Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association challenge held at Manchester University.

Trine defeated the Fightin' Engineers 20-25, 25-23, 26-24, 25-19 in Friday afternoon's opener, before Kalamazoo picked up a 25-14, 22-25, 25-21, 25-15 victory in the nightcap.

Against Kalamazoo, junior Sarah Jensen led Rose-Hulman with eight kills and added 12 assists and six solo blocks.  Sophomore Emily McLendon paced the front row defense with four solo blocks and eight assists.  

Sophomore Morgan Dreyer had seven kills and 17 assists, while senior Briana Harvey contributed seven kills and 14 digs to the performance.  Freshman Gabi Razma added a team-high 25 digs.

In the Trine match, Dreyer recorded 15 kills and 17 assists to pace Rose-Hulman.  Jensen recorded her first triple-double of the season with 12 kills, 14 assists and 16 digs.  McLendon contibuted one solo block and five block assists, and Razma recorded 22 digs. 

Rose-Hulman returns to action on Saturday with matches against Olivet and Adrian at Manchester University.
