Rose-Hulman 2017-18 Basketball Schedules Released

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's and women's basketball schedules feature 11 home games each, highlighted by returning and emerging non-conference rivalry games, for the upcoming 2017-18 season.

The men's basketball schedule home schedule includes all nine Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opponents along with Wabash and Illinois Tech.  The women's home schedule includes nine HCAC foes, the Dorsett Automotive Crosstown Classic against St. Mary-of-the-Woods, and a matchup with Birmingham Southern.

The women's basketball team reached the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first time last season after setting a school record with a 24-4 mark.  The Fightin' Engineers won their first outright HCAC regular season championship and won the league tournament in Terre Haute, before narrowly falling to Wheaton (Ill.) in the NCAA Tournament.  The 2016-17 women's season also included a 14-game winning streak prior to NCAA play.

Top projected returning scorers for the Rose-Hulman women's squad include Ally Bromenschenkel (13.0 ppg); Alyzia Dilworth (8.3 ppg); Abby Bromenschenkel (7.3 ppg); and Taylor Graham (6.5 ppg).

Rose-Hulman has put together one of the most competitive non-conference women's basketball schedules in NCAA Division III to challenge a team that returns four of its top five scorers from last year.  The Fightin' Engineers will play in the Hope College (Mich.) Tip-Off Tournament Nov. 17-18, hit the road for Chicago on Nov. 21, and travel to Greencastle for the Midwest Challenge featuring DePauw, Illinois Wesleyan and Washington (Mo.) on Nov. 26.

The non-conference women's schedule also includes matchups with St. Mary-of-the-Woods on Nov. 29 and Birmingham Southern on Dec. 12.  The challenge of Rose-Hulman non-conference schedule is clear, with Chicago, DePauw, Hope, Illinois Wesleyan and Washington (Mo.) all qualifying for the NCAA Division III Tournament last season.

On the men's side, Rose-Hulman finished 14-12 for its seventh consecutive winning season and seventh straight trip to the HCAC Tournament in 2016-17.  The Fightin' Engineers have also reached the HCAC Tournament Championship Game three times in the last five years.  The team won seven of its last eight games, including a win over eventual NCAA Division III Elite Eight qualifier Hanover, to spark the season.

Top projected returning scorers for the Rose-Hulman men's squad include Charlie Aimone (16.2 ppg); John Czarnecki (8.3 ppg); Ryuji Aoki (7.9 ppg); Stephen Schueth (7.6 ppg); Nick McGrail (7.0 ppg); and Luke Callahan (6.3 ppg).

The 2017-18 men's non-conference schedule opens with a trip to the University of Chicago Midway Classic on Nov. 17-18 for matchups against Trinity (Texas) and Chicago.  Illinois Tech comes to Hulbert Arena for the home opener on Nov. 21, before trips to Millikin (Nov. 27) and DePauw (Nov. 29) close the month.  The non-conference schedule also includes a home game with Wabash on Dec. 21 and a trip to Boyce College (Ky.) on Nov. 18.

In conference play, both the Rose-Hulman men and women will compete in a double round-robin format against league foes.  One team will be home each Wednesday, and the teams will compete in doubleheaders on Saturdays.

Home conference doubleheaders in 2017-18 include Defiance on Dec. 2; Manchester on Dec. 16; Bluffton on Jan. 13; Transylvania on Jan. 27; and Earlham for Senior Day on Feb. 10.
