Fightin' Engineers Make an Impact to the Local Community

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology athletic department continues to make a significant positive impact in the Terre Haute and Wabash Valley Communities.  Below are several examples of Fightin' Engineer teams contributing to community service efforts during the most recent academic year. 

Individual Rose-Hulman student-athletes also give back to the community in numerous ways, through campus organization, fraternity and sorority programming.  Multiple Rose-Hulman teams also host youth camps that allow for interaction between student-athletes, coaches and local residents.

BASEBALL
* 25 Fightin' Engineers assisted Griffin Bike Park staff with multiple projects, including loading building materials and transporting, cutting wood and setting in place for construction of a new floating bridge

MEN'S BASKETBALL
* Adopted two local families in need during the Holiday season, supplying clothes, toys and other items
* Raised funds and distributed shoes to the Samaritan's Feet organization through a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference wide program in Indianapolis

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
* Hosted its annual "Breast Cancer Awareness Game" to raise awareness and funds for the Wabash Valley Breast Cancer Survivors Organization.  The annual event has raised over $12,000 in the last decade and had more than 30 local survivors in attendance this year.
* Adopted two local families in need during the Holiday season, supplying clothes, toys and other items

CROSS COUNTRY
* Collected camping items for public distribution at the "HUD Homeless Point in Time" event in January
* Team contributed more than 15 hours over five different days to the overall camping items collection effort 

FOOTBALL
* Provides assistance with the "Bikes for Tykes" local community service project conducted at Rose-Hulman
* Raised funds and distributed shoes to the Samaritan's Feet organization through a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference wide program in Indianapolis
* Raised funds and awareness for pediatric cancer, through the Yellow Shoelaces Game.  The event donates all proceeds to the PS We Love You Foundation, which provides Pediatric Precision Genetics Testing for needy children at Riley Children's Hospital

MEN'S GOLF
* Team member conducts a weekly tutoring session at the Vigo County YMCA

MEN'S SOCCER
* The coaching staff has assisted boys and girls club teams in the Winter and Spring seasons

WOMEN'S SOCCER
* Hosts the Grey Matters Awareness game each year with financial donations made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital on behalf of Rose-Hulman
* Team members visited the Terre Haute Country Club to play "soccer golf" with several area youth
* The coaching staff has assisted boys and girls club teams in the Winter and Spring seasons

SOFTBALL
* Hosts an annual "Go4theGoalGame" to raise funds and awareness of the fight against pediatric cancer

SWIMMING & DIVING
* Competes in the "Ted Mullin Hour of Power" fundraiser for Sarcoma Research
* Volunteered support at a Para-olympic swim meet in Indianapolis
* Several team members contributed to the team's performance in the HCAC Unified Bowling program

MEN'S TENNIS
* Hosted a "Fight Cancer" awareness raising match against Mount St. Joseph in April 2018

TRACK & FIELD
* Several team members contributed to the team's performance in the HCAC Unified Bowling program

VOLLEYBALL
* Provided assistance and support for the Indiana Special Olympics Track and Field Event, hosted on the Rose-Hulman campus in May
