TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology athletic department has selected Luke Buehler as the men's winner of the 2019-20 Ruel Fox Burns Blanket, as part of the Senior Honors and Recognition Awards released on Friday.
The Ruel Fox Burns Blanket Award is named after Ruel Fox Burns, a 1915 alumnus of Rose Polytechnic Institute. Burns was later a member of the Rose Polytechnic Board of Trustees who was very influential the growth of the Rose Polytechnic athletic programs. The award, presented annually since at least 1968, is given to the the top contributing senior male and female athletes over their four-year careers. This is the highest honor that the athletic department awards annually.
Buehler was a two-time first-team all-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference selection and was named the 2019 HCAC Pitcher of the Year. The two-time ABCA All-Region honoree and five-time HCAC Pitcher of the Week finished his career with a 15-7 record and the No. 3 ranked earned run average in school history (2.27).
Buehler pitched a total of 186.2 innings at Rose-Hulman with 144 strikeouts. He finished 7-1 with a 1.88 ERA in 2019; finished with a 1.53 ERA in 2018; and was 2-0 with a 1.64 ERA in the COVID-19 shortened 2020 season.
The Ruel Fox Burns Blanket awards are the last of nearly a dozen award winners that were named this week as part of the Senior Honors and Recognition Award series.
