SCHAUMBURG, Ill. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology relied on a strong pitching performance and timely hitting to top Dominican University (Ill.) 5-2 on Thursday afternoon at Boomers Stadium.
Matthew Rouse improved to 2-0 on the season with five shutout innings to start of the pitching performance. Rouse allowed just two hits and two walks with seven strikeouts. Jacob Petrisko picked up the final six outs and allowed just one hit to earn his first save.
Offensively, Rose-Hulman scored two runs in the fourth inning, one in the fifth and two in the sixth. Davis Robeson led the offense with two singles and one run scored. Logan Cody added a double, two RBIs and scored once. Sean Casey and Harris Camp each contributed one hit and one RBI.
Cody keyed a fourth inning rally with an RBI double, and Casey had a timely single in the sixth inning to plate another run to pace the individual offensive performances.
Rose-Hulman improved to 15-8 with its third consecutive win. Dominican dropped to 12-11. The Fightin' Engineers put their perfect 4-0 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference record on the line with a trip to Transylvania for a doubleheader on Saturday.
