TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology will serve as host of the 2019 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament starting Thursday afternoon after earning the league's regular season conference championship.

Tournament champion is the HCAC's automatic qualifier in the 2019 NCAA DIII Championship Tournament.
 
Rose-Hulman holds the top seed for this weekend's tournament after finishing 25-10 overall and 14-2 in HCAC play.  The Fightin' Engineers have won four HCAC Tournament titles, two regular season HCAC championships and made two appearances in the NCAA Division III Regional Championship Round since 2009.
 
Luke Buehler has led the pitching staff with a 7-0 record and a 1.28 earned run average this season.  Buehler has struck out 50 batters in 56.1 innings of work, holding the opposition to a .212 batting average.  Clayton Mayfield (4-1, 5.51), Trever Bruno (3-2, 4.74) and Trevor Dallio (1-2, 3.86) have rounded out the starting rotation.
 
Brian Pershing leads the bullpen with five saves and a 1.26 ERA in 14.1 innings of work.  Matthew Rouse has added a 1.52 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 23.2 innings of work to provide additional depth.  A total of 10 Rose-Hulman pitchers have thrown double-digit innings this season.
 
Offensively, Pershing and Zach Witonsky have led the offense with averages of .459 and .417, respectively, in reserve roles.  Among the starters, David Burnside (.352, 10 2B, 3 HR), Davis Robeson (.339, 6 2B), Luke Kluemper (.338, 2 2B, 1 3B), Harris Camp (.333, 3 2B, 3 3B, 1 HR) and Conner Helbling (.333, 7 2B, 1 HR) lead a balanced attack that has hit .315 with 71 doubles this spring.
 
Franklin is the No. 2 seed after finishing 25-13 and 12-6 in conference play.  The Grizzlies are the defending HCAC champions and hit a league-high 36 home runs, easily outdistancing Defiance College in second place in the league at 20.
 
Anderson has the No. 3 seed with a 20-14 record, including 10-8 in league games.  The Ravens lead the conference in pitching strikeouts per nine innings at 8.50.
 
Defiance earned the No. 4 seed with a 21-14-1 mark and a 10-8 conference record.  The Yellow Jackets were picked to finish last in the HCAC preseason poll and have relied on over 200 runs scored, 63 doubles and 20 home runs to earn a spot in the postseason.
 
Transylvania picked up the No. 5 seed with an overall record of 16-22, including a 9-9 league mark.  The Pioneers rank third in the league in hitting at .287 and have turned 25 double plays in the field.
 

Tickets are priced at $8 for session for adults and $5 for senior citizens or children.  All-session tournament passes will be available for $20 for adults and $10 for senior citizens or children.  Pets are not permitted at all HCAC championship events. 

The double elimination tournament begins Thursday May 9 and continues through either Saturday or Sunday.  The winner receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
