Rose-Hulman Baseball Tops Defiance; Title Game Set for Sunday

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology advanced to the championship round of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament with a 6-3 win over Defiance College on Saturday afternoon at Art Nehf Field.

The championship round featuring Rose-Hulman and Franklin was postponed until Sunday due to rain.  Rose-Hulman and Franklin will square off at 10 am at Art Nehf Field.  If Rose-Hulman wins game one, the second will follow 30 minutes after the contest.  If Franklin wins game one, the Grizzlies return to the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive year.

Trever Bruno pitched 7.2 strong innings and allowed no earned runs with two strikeouts to improve to 4-2 on the season for the Engineers.  Matthew Rouse completed the game with 1.1 innings of relief to move Rose-Hulman into the championship round for the first time since 2016.

Offensively, Sean Casey and Ryan Stachowski had three hits and two RBIs to lead a balanced offensive attack.  Casey had a triple and scored two runs, while Stachowski had a double in the contest.

Conner Shipley added a single, two RBIs and one run, and Luke Calabrese pitched in with two hits and one run. 

Rose-Hulman improved to 27-11 on the season, while Defiance completed its season at 23-16-1.  Franklin enters the HCAC Tournament championship round with a 27-13 record.
