AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology pounded out 13 runs in the last three innings to earn a 16-6 victory over Fontbonne University in the 2020 baseball opener on Monday morning at Lake Myrtle Park.
Rose-Hulman trailed 3-2 entering the fifth inning, but five runs in the fourth, seven runs in the sixth and three runs in the seventh allowed the Fightin' Engineers to pull away and pick up the win.
Other Engineers with multiple hits included Harris Camp with two singles and two runs scored; Ryan Stachowski with two singles, one run and one RBI; and Luke Kluemper with two singles, two runs scred and two RBIs. Josh Mesenbrink and Luke Calabrese also scored twice for the balanced Rose-Hulman offense.
The support was plenty for senior Luke Buehler, who picked up the winning by allowing just one earned run in five innings of work. Buehler scrattered seven hits and recorded five strikeouts in the victory.
Rose-Hulman stands 1-0 on the season and faces St. Joseph's (Maine) on Tuesday at 9:45 am. Fontbonne dropped to 5-5 on the campaign.
