TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology capped the 2017 football season with two Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week awards, in results released on Monday by the league office.
Sophomore Garrett Wight was named HCAC Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts in Saturday's 83-14 victory at Earlham College, while senior Josh Vincent earned the HCAC Special Teams Player of the Week award.
Wight rushed for 216 yards on 18 carries with three touchdowns to lead an overall performance that tied the single-game school record for rushing yards at 435. He ended the season as the HCAC rushing champion with 1,036 yards.
Vincent scored his first college touchdown with a blocked punt that he returned 23 yards for a touchdown. He finished the season with 35 tackles, 4.5 tackles-for-loss, 2.5 sacks and two pass breakups.
Rose-Hulman completed the season with an 8-2 record, marking the team's third straight year with eight or more wins. The Fightin' Engineers last won eight games in a season in three straight years from 1986-88. The team opens the 2018 schedule at perennial power Mount Union on Sept. 1 in Ohio.
