TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology has been picked to finish fourth in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball standings this season, in a preseason poll of league coaches released Wednesday.
Rose-Hulman received a total of 68 poll points for the fourth position after finishing with a record of 14-12 and 12-6 in league play last season. The Fightin' Engineers return four starters and six of their top seven scorers, led by junior second-team all-conference selection Charlie Aimone at 16.2 points per game.
Other top returning scorers include sophomore John Czarnecki (8.3 ppg); sophomore Ryuji Aoki (7.9 ppg); senior Stephen Schueth (7.6 ppg); junior Nick McGrail (7.0 ppg); and junior Luke Callahan (6.3 ppg).
Rose-Hulman has reached the championship game of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament four times in the past six seasons. Hanover, the preseason poll favorites, led the way after reaching the NCAA Elite Eight last season and winning the HCAC regular season and tournament championships.
Rose-Hulman opens the season with a trip to the Chicago Midway Classic, facing Trinity (Texas) and the University of Chicago on Nov. 17-18. The home season begins Nov. 21 against Illinois Tech.
