ELSAH, Ill. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology relied on one goal in each half to top Principia College 2-0 in the men's soccer opener on Friday night.
The Fightin' Engineers and North Central were tied at halftime on Saturday night in the second game of the weekend road trip, but the game was later cancelled due to lightning.
Michel Farhat put in the first goal of the game in the 40th minute, on a pass from Tyler Foster. In the second half, Travis Bednarek scored on a pass from Charles Lynch to give the Engineers a key insurance goal.
Defense was the key to the evening for the Fightin' Engineers. Principia amassed 20 shots, but the Fightin' Engineers stood strong in the shutout. Pascal Schlee recorded six saves in net to pick up the goalkeeping victory.
Rose-Hulman tallied eight shots of its own, led by Connor Claussen and Bednarek with two each.
The Fightin'' Engineers stand 1-0 and return to action on Tuesday night with a trip to Greenville College.
