NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind.-- The men's soccer team traveled to face Manchester on Saturday. After two goals in the second half the Engineers were able to force overtime. The Spartans were able to come away with the win in the first overtime period to defeat the Engineers 3-2.
The Spartans started the game off aggressive. They were able to get to the net first in the sixth minute to take an early lead. Manchester was able to score again in the 41st minute to extend their lead to 2-0 before halftime.
The second half consisted of competitive play between both teams. The Engineers were able to get on the board in the 78th minute after Eric Kirby was able to set up Travis Bednarek for the goal. Rose-Hulman would find the equalizer in the 78th minute after PJ Renz was able to connect with Michael Simmons for the tying goal. This would force overtime with the score tied 2-2.
The Spartans were able to defeat the Engineers in overtime to improve to 6-9-1 overall and 4-3 in the conference. Pascal Schlee finished with two saves after five shots on goal. Rose-Hulman drops to 8-6-1 overall and 5-2 in the HCAC. They will travel to face Anderson University in their next match on Wednesday, 10/24 at 3:30 PM.
