Men's Soccer Tops Anderson 5-2, Remains Tied for First in HCAC

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's soccer team remained in a three-way tie for first place in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference standings with a 5-2 victory over Anderson University on Wednesday night.

Five different Engineers tallied the five goals, as Rose-Hulman improved to 14-3 overall and 7-1 in conference play.  Rose-Hulman is tied for the top spot with Hanover and Transylvania with one match left in the 2019 regular season.

Sam Alvares put the Engineers on the board in the 11th minute with a score, on a pass from AJ Yilmaz and Takezo Kelly.  Kelly put in the second goal just four minutes later on another Yilmaz assist.

Ryan Tarr helped Rose-Hulman gain a 3-0 lead in the 25th minute on a goal from a pass by Eric Kirby.  The lead reached 4-0 at halftime on a score by Matt Fix, assisted by Tarr.

Anderson closed to within 4-2 on goals by Sean Cain and Daniel Collins early in the second half.  Rose-Hulman secured the victory with a Travis Bednarek goal on an assist by Zach Buvalic.

The Fightin' Engineers outshot Anderson 16-6 in the contest, with Pascal Schlee picking up his 14th win of the season in goal after recording three saves.  Five players led the Fightin' Engineers with two shots each.

Rose-Hulman hosts Transylvania in a showdown of HCAC co-leaders on Senior Day at the Engineer Intramural Field this Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
