TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's tennis team has been selected as the favorites to win this year's Heartland Conference title in a tightly contested preseason poll of league coaches released on Thursday.
Rose-Hulman is the three-time defending HCAC champions and enters the 2018 season on a 30-match winning streak against conference opposition. This year's squad features the return of two first-team all-conference from last season in senior Cam Metzger and junior Andre Adam.
The returning depth also includes honorable mention all-league honorees sophomore Austin Perry and junior Andrew Schiffman. The team includes eight returnees and a pair of seniors (Metzger and Brendan Goldacker), along with two talented newcomers. This year's Rose-Hulman rookies include sophomore Naval Academy transfer Ian Landwehr and freshman Grant Stamper.
Rose-Hulman finished 20-9 last season and earned its third straight HCAC Tournament and conference regular season championship in 2017. The Fightin' Engineers also earned the first NCAA Division III Tournament win in program history, defeating Wheaton (Ill.) 5-4 at Washington University (Mo.) last May.
The regular season will kick off on February 17 with a matchup against Principia College at the Wabash Valley Tennis Center.
