TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Four members of the 2017-18 Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's tennis team earned All-Academic honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, in results released on Tuesday.
Seniors Brendan Goldacker and Cam Metzger joined junior Ben Strate and freshman Grant Stamper as ITA All-Academic award winners. Varsity tennis players must achieve a grade point average above 3.50 during the 2017-18 academic year to qualify for the ITA All-Academic Team.
Goldacker and Metzger became the first Rose-Hulman student-athletes to qualify for NCAA Division III Tournament play during all four years of their playing careers. Goldacker finished with 21 career singles wins and 20 doubles victories, earning honorable mention all-HCAC honors in 2018. Metzger was a four-time all-HCAC honoree who ranks second in Rose-Hulman history in career singles wins (61), third in doubles wins (65) and third in career total wins (126). Metzger also won the deciding match in Rose-Hulman's first NCAA Tournament victory against Wheaton in 2017 and was named Most Valuable Player of the 2018 HCAC Tournament.
Strate is a three-year member of the program who finished 3-1 in singles and 5-2 in doubles play last season. Stamper completed his first college season with a 5-1 singles record and a 4-2 doubles mark.
Rose-Hulman reached its fourth straight NCAA Tournament last season and has won its last 39 matches against Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference competition. The Fightin' Engineers finished 17-11 last year and open the 2018-19 team regular season against Case Western Reserve on Feb. 8.
