NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology won its 44th consecutive men's tennis match against Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference competition, shutting out Manchester University 9-0 on Saturday afternoon.
The Fightin' Engineers lead the HCAC at 5-0 in league play. Rose-Hulman has two regular season league matches remaining next Saturday.
Rose-Hulman relied on wins of 8-2, 8-7 and 8-1 in doubles action to take a 3-0 lead in the match. Winners included Josh Giambattista and Austin Perry at No. 1; Arudrra Krishnan and Jacob Pluta at No. 2; and Joseph Conrad with Mark Slaninka at No. 3.
In singles action, Rose-Hulman won all six matches in straight sets to complete the 9-0 match victory. Players picking up wins were Andre Adam at No. 1 singles; Giambattista at No. 2; Grant Stamper at No. 3; Pluta at No. 4; Krishnan at No. 5; and Slaninka at No. 6.
Rose-Hulman improved to 9-9 with its eighth consecutive win this season, while Manchester dropped to 3-7 and 1-4 in league matches. The Fightin' Engineers travel to Hanover and Franklin next Saturday to complete the HCAC regular season schedule and will look to secure their fifth straight regular season conference championship.
