CLERMONT, Fl. -- The Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers were able to split their double header on Wednesday. The team fell short in the first game against St. Mary's (Minn.) with a final of 2-1, and picking up a win in their second game against Elizabethtown 6-4.
Game 1- Rose-Hulman 1, St. Mary's (Minn.) 2
The Engineers would start the day motivated to get a win. Emily Struble had an outstanding day at the mound pitching all seven innings recording eight strikeouts. Gabrielle Davidson would put Rose-Hulman on the board in the bottom of the third to take the lead 1-0.
St. Mary's would tie the game in the top of the fifth and take the lead in the top of the seventh 2-1. The Engineers would have their opportunities to tie the game in the final inning. Unfortunately, the tying run would be called out at home plate to end the game and give the Engineers their third loss of the season.
Game 2- Rose-Hulman 6, Elizabethtown 4
Rose-Hulman would look to bounce back in the second game of the day against Elizabethtown. Alyssa Pinkston would take the mound in game two earning her second win of the season.
The Engineers offense would come to life in the top of the third. A double by Nicole Lang would push in two runs by MaKenzie Morgan and Alexis Fortuna to make the score 2-0. Lang would come home after a double by Struble to make the score 3-0. Struble and Sullivan would add two more runs to the teams total to put them up 5-0.
Elizabethtown would earn a run in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 5-1. Angela Boulboulle would put up another score for the Engineers in the top of the fifth to increase the lead. Elizabethtown would try to rally, but would come up short with a final score of 6-4.
Rose-Hulman will continue their Florida trip tomorrow taking on Eastern at 10:15 am and Regis (Mass.) at 12:30 pm.
