TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology junior Sean Gish has been named the inaugural winner of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week award, released Monday by the league office.
Gish helped lead a sweep of 14 men's swimming event wins in a dual meet at Anderson University last Friday night. Gish was the only Fightin' Engineer to play a hand in three first-place events, highlighted by individual wins in the 50-freestyle (22.42), the 100-freestyle (49.42). He also combined to help the 200-medley relay team earn first-place honors in a time of 1:41.85.
The HCAC is conducting men's and women's swimming and diving championships for the first time in 2017-18, and the event will take place at the Wabash Valley Aquatic Center on Feb. 9-11. Anderson, Franklin, Manchester, Rose-Hulman and Transylvania currently sponsor men's and women's swimming and diving teams, and Hanover announced that the sport will be added in 2018-19.
Rose-Hulman returns to action at the Transylvania Invitational on Dec. 2-3 in Lexington, Ky.
