TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology senior Cam Gill and freshman Peter Venema swept the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Swimming and Diving Player of the Week honors, in results released by the league office on Monday.
Both student-athletes were key contributors to Rose-Hulman's strong team performance at the Transylvania Invitational on Saturday and Sunday. Gill and Venema combined to play a direct hand in eight of the 16 men's event victories this weekend, helping Rose-Hulman outdistance the opposition in the team scoring by over 500 points.
Gill won two individual events and swam on four winning relay teams during the weekend. He captured the 100-freestyle (46.66) and 100-backstroke (51.34) individual titles. Gill also competed on winning teams in the 200-freestyle, 400-freestyle, 200-medley and 800-freestyle relays.
Venema swept the men's 1-meter (382.10) and 3-meter (488.35) diving championships at the Transylvania Invitational. His 3-meter performance established a new Rose-Hulman school record for 11 dives and also hit the NCAA Division III Diving Regional qualifying standard.
Rose-Hulman returns to action at DePauw on Jan. 12.
