TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology senior Trey Sykes has been named Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week for his efforts at the Rose-Hulman Early Bird Invitational last weekend.
Sykes won the long jump with a mark of 21' 5 1/2" and also captured first place in the triple jump with a leap of 44' 9 3/4". His pair of victories helped the Fightin' Engineers pick up the team win in the nine-team meet.
Sykes is a 3-time All-American in the outdoor triple jump, with national finishes of 4th (2018), 5th (2017) and 7th (2016). He is a 4-time HCAC individual champion, with three triple jump titles and a fourth win on the 2018 4-x-100 meter relay team.
The senior 2-sport athlete holds Rose-Hulman's school record in the outdoor triple jump (49' 7 3/4") and as part of the 4-x-100 meter relay team (42.05 seconds). He is also a member of the basketball team that finished 17-9 this season and won a share of the 2018 HCAC regular season championship.
Rose-Hulman returns to action at the Washington University Invitational on Saturday in St. Louis.
