Engineers Escape With Road Win Over Anderson

ANDERSON, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers women's basketball team was able to get a tightly contested win on the road against the Anderson Ravens with a final score of 59-58 Wednesday night.  This win improves the Engineers to 11-5 overall and 8-1 in the HCAC. 

Debie Gedeon and Ally Bromenschenkel were the team's leading scorers with 14 points each on the night.  Ally Bromenschenkel was also able to lead the team with 6 rebounds.  Abby Bromenschenkel was able to make an impact with 11 points, 4 steals, 3 assists, and 5 rebounds.  Kayla Gerken contributed offensively with 7 points, 3 assists, and 5 rebounds.  

Other contributors included Caitlin Young and Jenna Queary each scoring 4 points coming off the bench.  

Both teams looked to be evenly matched at the beginning of the contest.  The score was tied 16-16 at the end of the first quarter of play. 

The Engineers were able to increase the defensive pressure to outscore the Ravens in the second quarter 15-7.  This made the score 31-23 with the Engineers ahead as the game headed to halftime.  Ally Bromenschenkel was the team's leading scorer with 10 points and 5 rebounds in the first half. 

Anderson was able to put together a solid third quarter to close the margin.  The Ravens cut the lead to just one point with the score at 41-40 heading into the final quarter of play.

With the score tied at 58-58 and Rose-Hulman with possession, Abby Bromenschenkel was fouled on a three-point attempt in the final second of regulation.  She was able to sink one of the free throws to put the Engineers up by one with 0.7 seconds left.  Anderson was not able to convert on a tipped layup attempt and the Engineers came away with the win with a final score of 59-58. 

The team was able to finish the game with a 34-29 rebounding advantage over Anderson. 

The Engineers stand at 11-5 overall and 8-1 in the HCAC and are tied for first in the conference with Transylvania University.  Rose-Hulman will return to action on Saturday, 1/19 as they host Defiance in their Breast Cancer Awareness.
