Rose-Hulman Earns Dramatic Comeback Win at Earlham Tuesday

RICHMOND, Ind. -- As the saying goes, "it's not over until it's over." The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's soccer team completed a dramatic comeback victory at Earlham College winning by a final score of 2-1 in double overtime Tuesday afternoon.

Neither team gained a significant advantage through 45 minutes of play, playing to a scoreless draw at the intermission.  The Fightin' Engineers attempted seven shots in the first half to Earlham's five.

Late in the second half, the action picked up for both sides.  The scoreless draw was broken by a goal from Jordan Blackburne that gave Earlham a 1-0 lead in the 77th minute.

Rose-Hulman has dealt with a tough schedule all season long that has seen the Engineers play two top-10 opponents and drop several close contests in overtime.  With just minutes left in the second half, the Fightin' Engineers flipped the script and began their comeback.

Senior Stef Panzenhagen scored her second goal of the season off of a pass from Madeline Romeo.  The equalizer came with just 3:12 left on the game clock.

With the momentum shifting dramatically, both teams played stout defense in the first ten minute overtime period.  Rose-Hulman completed the dramatic comeback the second overtime after Jessica Wells scored the game-winning goal in the 103rd minute.  It was her fifth goal of the season, courtesy of a pass from Kirby Kern.

For the game, Rose-Hulman out shot Earlham 26-11.  The Engineers had 12 shots on goal.  Wells led the offense with nine shots, six of which were on target.  Panzehangen fired four shots on the afternoon.  11 different Rose-Hulman players attempted at least one shot in the match

The win moves Rose-Hulman to 4-7-0, 1-1-0 HCAC.  Earlham fell to 5-6-0, 1-1-0 HCAC.  RHIT will return to action on Saturday October 7th.  The Engineers will host Manchester at 1 pm out at Intramural Field.  It will be Homecoming Weekend for Rose-Hulman.
