TERRE HAUTE, Ind.-- The Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers women's soccer team were able to defeat the Franklin Grizzlies with a final score of 5-0 to improve to 10-4-1 overall and 5-0-1 in the HCAC.
Rose-Hulman maintained sole possession of first place in the HCAC with the victory. The Fightin' Engineers extended their streak of matches without a loss to eight, dating back to Sept. 21.
Rose-Hulman was able to come out and take control of the pitch early with a goal from Lane Lawrence in the third minute. The Engineers were able to add another goal after Elly McCullumsmith was able to connect with Jessica Wells for the score in the 12th minute. Maddy Twetten was able to get to the net once more in the 24th minute to give Rose-Hulman a 3-0 lead over the Grizzlies heading into halftime.
The Engineers outshot the Grizzlies 14-3 in the first half.
Rose-Hulman continued to dominate the game in the second half of the match. Maddie Sorensen was able to score her first goal of the season in the 58th minute after an assist from Veronica Gawarecki to make the score 4-0. Lawrence was able to take advantage of an assist from Wells to get to the net for her second goal of the day in the 63rd minute to seal the win for the Engineers.
Goalie Katie Demert was able to record one save in the match as the Engineers defense recorded their eighth shutout of the season. Rose-Hulman ended the match outshooting the Grizzlies 26-5.
The Engineers will continue their conference schedule hosting Manchester University on Saturday, 10/26 at 1:00 PM.
