TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman women's tennis team was tested early Sunday afternoon but the Fightin' Engineers persevered for a non-conference victory over Millikin University at the Joy Hulbert Tennis Center.
The Big Blue of Millikin went ahead early in the match taking two of the three doubles matches. However, singles action was dominated by the Fightin' Engineers. Rose-Hulman won all six singles matches, claiming the match by a final score of 7-2.
Anna Thompson won a hard-fought duel at the no. 1 singles slot 7-5, 3-6, 6-0. Bella Evans notched a win at the no. 2 singles spot, 6-1, 6-2. Naomi Bhagat continued her strong play this year with a 7-6 (4-0), 6-4 win at the no. 3 singles position. Freshman Fanny-Jane Banda earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory at no. 4 singles. Kyla Jarvis got a win at no. 5 singles Sunday with a 7-5, 6-3 win. Linde Schaffer rounded out the afternoon with a 6-3, 6-4 win at the no. 6 singles position.
The win moved the Engineers to 5-2 in 2017. Rose-Hulman will return to action on Saturday October 7 at 11 am. The Fightin' Engineers will welcome HCAC-foe Mount St. Joseph during Homecoming.
