TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Seven members of the 2017-18 Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's tennis team earned All-Academic honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, in results released on Tuesday.
Junior Beata Barati, sophomore Naomi Bhagat, senior Bella Evans, sophomore Kyla Jarvis, senior Caroline Johnson, sophomore Betsy Richardson and junior Linde Schaffer were named ITA All-Academic award winners. Varsity tennis players must achieve a grade point average above 3.50 during the 2017-18 academic year to qualify for the ITA All-Academic Team.
Barati has a career singles record of 4-5 and is 6-7 in doubles play. Bhagat is a two-time all-conference honoree who is ranked No. 2 in school history in singles winning percentage (.778) with a 28-8 career record. Evans earned four all-conference honors and finished No. 2 in school history in career singles wins (49) and career combined wins (83).
Jarvis has recorded a singles mark of 6-6 and a doubles record of 12-7 over the past two years. Johnson won a pair of singles and five doubles matches after joining the team as a senior. Richardson has picked up three victories as a Fightin' Engineer, and Schaffer has 35 career wins with 19 coming in singles play.
Rose-Hulman also qualified as an ITA All-Academic Team by having a women's team grade point average above 3.20 for the year.
Rose-Hulman finished 11-8 overall and 5-2 in conference play last season. The Fightin' Engineers also reached the semifinals of the HCAC Tournament. The 2018-19 dual match season begins Sept. 15 at home against Defiance.
