Women's Tennis Shuts Out Defiance in 2018 Season Opener

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology opened the 2018 women's tennis season with a 9-0 shutout victory over Defiance College on Saturday at the Joy Hulbert Tennis Center.

The Fightin' Engineers had two singles rallies from one set down to complete the shutout.  Anna Thompson picked up a three-set win at the No. 1 singles position, and Fanny-Jane Banda won in three sets at No. 3.

Straight-set singles winners included Naomi Bhagat at the No. 2 flight; Linde Schaffer at No. 4; Beata Barati at No. 5; and Betsy Richardson at No. 6.

In doubles action, the team of Thompson and Bhagat claimed an 8-4 victory at No. 2 doubles.  Banda and Kyla Jarvis won 8-3 at No. 2 doubles, while Schaffer and Krista Manche earned an 8-1 victory at No. 3.

Rose-Hulman returns to action at Earlham College on Sunday at noon.
