SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology sophomore Fanny-Jane Banda split a pair of matches against her sister Martha Banda to highlight a doubleheader on Friday at South Bend Racquet Club.
Fanny-Jane picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win over her sister at the No. 3 singles flight for one of Rose-Hulman's two points in a 7-2 loss to Judson (Ill.). Martha teamed with Irina Iacob to pick up a win over Fanny-Jane and Kyla Jarvis at No. 2 doubles by an 8-5 margin to earn a split of the two matchups.
The Banda sisters are from Trilport, France, and faced off head-to-head for the first time in their college careers.
Jarvis added Rose-Hulman's second point in singles play, winning 7-5, 7-6 at No. 5 singles.
In the nightcap, St. Mary's College picked up a narrow 5-4 win over the Fightin' Engineers in the regular season finale.
Naomi Bhagat, Anna Thompson and Banda picked up victories at the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles flights to pace the performance. The No. 1 doubles team of Bhagat and Thompson earned the fourth win of the day's nightcap.
Rose-Hulman will compete in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament in Indianapolis starting Oct. 19.
