TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology relied on a strong hitting performance to top St. Mary-of-the-Woods College 25-16, 25-19, 25-13 in college volleyball action on Tuesday night at Hulbert Arena.
The Fightin' Engineers hit .265 for the match, including 14 kills with just one attack error in the final set. Marissa Gollnick led the offense with 11 kills and 15 assists. Katie Orbeta contributed eight kills, a team-high 21 assists and 11 digs.
Rose-Hulman recorded nine total blocks in the match with multiple front-row players contributing to the effort. Mia Styczynski paced the squad with six block assists, with Gollnick contributing four. Maria Bruner pitched in with three block assists to go along wih seven kills.
McKenzi Kumpf led the St. Mary-of-the-Woods performance with nine kills and 14 digs. Pamela Dorman matched Kumpf with 14 digs. Katelyn Cotter had a team-high 17 assists for the Pomeroys.
Rose-Hulman improved to 7-3 on the season, while St. Mary-of-the-Woods dropped to 2-8. The Fightin' Engineers return to action at the DePauw Invitational this weekend, while St. Mary-of-the-Woods hosts Blackburn on Wednesday night.
