NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology picked up a straight-set road victory to open Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference volleyball play at Manchester University on Wednesday night.
The Fightin' Engineers battled through two tight sets and a comfortable middle set to win 26-24, 25-11, 28-26. Bailey MacInnis led the Rose-Hulman offense with 13 kills and just attack one error for a .462 hitting percentage. Marissa Gollnick added nine kills with 10 digs.
Other key contributors included Katie Orbeta with 33 assists and Maria Bruner with five total blocks on one solo and four assists. Gollnick, Gabrielle Gilbertson and Orbeta each had three service aces, and Katryna Dahlbert led the back row defense with 18 digs.
Rose-Hulman improved to 11-8 and 1-0 in HCAC play, while Manchester dropped to 4-9 and 1-1 in league games. The Fightin' Engineers return to action at home on Saturday at 3 p.m. against Transylvania in the first Cancer Research Game to support the Dan L. Duncan Foundation at the Baylor College of Medicine.
