TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology earned a straight-set Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference volleyball win over Transylvania University in the team's first cancer research game on Saturday at Hulbert Arena.
Rose-Hulman picked up a 25-16, 25-19, 25-23 victory over the visiting Pioneers to improve to 12-8 overall and 2-0 in HCAC play. Rose-Hulman fans also raised nearly $1,000 to support the Dan L. Duncan Cancer Research Center at Baylor University through T-shirt sales and a bake sale.
The balanced Fightin' Engineer attack was led by Bailey MacInnis with 13 kills and three total blocks. Grace Beach and Marissa Gollnick added nine kills each, and Maria Bruner contributed seven kills at a .438 hitting percentage.
Katie Orbeta contributed 34 assists and seven digs to the performance. Gollnick also led the team with three service aces.
Rose-Hulman rallied from a 23-22 deficit in the third set to win the final three points and clinch a tight set victory to close the match.
Rose-Hulman improved to 12-8 overall and 2-0 in league play, while Transylvania dropped to 6-9 and 0-2 in conference games. The Fightin' Engineers host Anderson University on Wednesday at Hulbert Arena.
