TACOMA, Wash. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology split a pair of four-set matches on Saturday to complete its weekend at the Puget Sound Invitational.
Rose-Hulman capped the tournament by defeating Widener 25-21, 25-20, 18-25, 25-22 in the nightcap. No. 26 ranked Pacific Lutheran opened the day with a 25-16, 18-25, 25-15, 25-22 victory.
In the Widener victory, Maria Bruner led the Rose-Hulman offfense wtih 12 kills and tied for the team-high with Katie Orbeta at five total blocks. Orbeta paced the squad with 22 assists, and Eryn Castaneda added 17 assists.
Katryna Dahlberg led the defensive performance with 22 digs. Canon had a team-high four service aces, with Castaneda and Orbeta adding two each.
Against Pacific Lutheran, Canon led the Rose-Hulman offensive effort with 13 kills. Orbeta and Castaneda recorded double-figure assists with 19 and 11, respectively.
Dahlberg had a team-high 20 digs, and Oladipupo reached double figures with 13 digs.
Oladipupo also had a team-high four service aces, with Dahlberg contributing two. Bruner added six total blocks, and Orbeta tallied three to lead the front row defensive performance.
Following the tournament, Dahlberg and Oladipupo were voted to the all-tournament team by head coaches competing in the event.
Rose-Hulman (1-3) returns to action with three matches on Friday and Saturday at the North Central College Invitational in Naperville, Ill.
