NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology put up a pair of tight battles before falling to Coe and North Central on Saturday afternoon at the North Central Invitational.
In the opener, Coe picked up a narrow 25-23, 25-19, 25-23 in the first match of the day. Riley Woodruff led the Rose-Hulman offense with nine kills and a .533 hitting percentage. Adekite Oladipupo added seven kills.
Katie Orbeta led the team with 19 assists and contributed nine digs, while Katryna Dahlberg had a team-best 20 digs. Maria Bruner recorded a team-high four block assists, with Elizabeth Canon adding three block assists.
The match against North Central proved to be a competitive contest for the Engineers. North Central was able to pick up the win after five sets 25-21, 12-25, 22-25, 25-22, 15-6. Orbeta led the Engineers offensively with 11 kills and a .229 hitting percentage. Oladipupo was also able to make an impact with eight kills in the match.
Eryn Castaneda was able to lead the team with 21 assists and 10 digs, while Dahlberg led the team with 27 digs in the second game of today's doubleheader. Woodruff was efficient at the net for the Engineers recording a team-high six block assists.
Rose-Hulman now stands at 2-5 overall this season and returns to action on Wednesday at St. Mary-of-the-Woods College in a crosstown matchup.
