Softball Drops Two In Double-Header On Tuesday

CLERMONT, FL.-- The Fightin' Engineers Softball team dropped both games of their double header on Tuesday.  The team came up short in their first game of the day against the Neumann Knights with a final of 11-3 after 5 innings.  The Engineers were able to be competitive in their second game of the double header, but were defeated by Capital University with a final of 6-0.  This drops the team to 1-3 overall in the 2018-19 season.

Game 1- Rose-Hulman 3, Neumann 11- 5 innings

Rose-Hulman came into the game with a strong start to take the lead in the first inning.  Jessica Thuer, Christina Gray, and Maddie Struble were able to score to put the Engineers in front 3-0 at the end of the first.  The Knights were able to tie the score after scoring three runs of their own in the top of the second to make the score 3-3.  The game began to get away from the Engineers in the third inning.

Neumann would put together a 7 run inning in the top of the third to jump in front of Rose-Hulman 10-3.  The Engineers would struggle offensively for the remainder of the game which would ultimately lead to the Knights 11-3 win after 5 innings.  

Game 2- Rose-Hulman 0, Capital 6

The Engineers looked to put up a fight against the Crusaders of Capital University after dropping their first game of the day.  Capital was able to jump ahead after a one run homerun in the bottom of the first.  They would tack on another run to make the score 2-0 heading into the second inning. 

Rose-Hulman struggled to get into scoring position throughout the game.  Capital was able to add another run in the second inning to make the score 3-0.  The offensive struggle continued for the Engineers as they were only able to record five hits the entire game.  Capital would take the win after increasing their lead with three more scores in the bottom of the fifth to defeat the Engineers with a final of 6-0.
